Red Jasper is a stone of connection, endurance, and stability. Possibly the most common of the Jaspers (an opaque form of Chalcedony and a microcrystalline variety of Quartz), it is considered a "supreme nurturer" and has been used for centuries, as far back as ancient Egypt, in paints, jewelry, and talismans for warriors, shamans, and healers for its strong protective qualities.
Still fairly common today, Red Jasper can be found all over the world, especially throughout Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, France, Germany, India, Russia, and the USA.

Appearance of Red Jasper
Chemical Formula: SiO2
Mohs Hardness: 6.5-7
Colors: Vibrant Red, Terracotta Red, Blood Red, Deep Red, Red Brown
Red Jasper, as mentioned before, is opaque and usually found in a vibrant red color, produced by the oxidization process of its high iron content, but it can also be duller or darker. It's not always a solid red color because of its formation in cracks, nodules, and fissures in volcanic and igneous rocks (formed by tectonic activity) and can contain small pockets of Quartz and/or cream, brown, dark red, and black veins.
NOTE: Red Jasper is fairly durable, being safe under water [4], although it may show signs of rust if exposed to water for long periods of time.[1]

Spiritually, Red Jasper is highly protective. It can guard against danger, shield against psychic attacks, and absorb environmental and electromagnetic pollution and radiation. It is also very good for meditation because of its grounding properties that can connect individuals with the Earth, reminding them of the wholeness and unity of the universe and giving them understanding of the true reality.
Emotionally and mentally, Red Jasper is balancing and inspiring on all levels. It can enhance focus by bringing energy and new ideas and eliminating distractions and procrastination. It can also inspire self-mastery, personal power, and growth by removing old patterns, bringing problems to light, and calming the mind in times of stress, change, and transformation. Red Jasper can also increase passion and sex compatibility in relationships.
Physically, Red Jasper strengthens and detoxifies many parts of the body. This includes the circulatory system, digestive system, and reproductive system. It can also be especially strengthening for the blood and liver. Red Jasper can enhance healthy libido, balance mineral content in body, and ease fever and prolonged illness.

Brecciated Jasper vs Red Jasper
Red Jasper (Left) and Brecciated Jasper (Right)
Brecciated Jasper is formed when Jasper is shattered and broken down into fragments because of tectonic activity around the fissures they form in. It is commonly formed with Red Jasper, although it also contains many impurities, causing its spots, speckles, and stripes of other colors, larger pockets of Quartz, and spots of pure Hematite [5].
When it comes to metaphysical properties, Brecciated Jasper and Red Jasper are a bit similar. Brecciated Jasper, a stone of strength and vitality, brings the same passion and grounding as Red Jasper, detoxifying the body and boosting energy, peace, and personal power. However, Brecciated Jasper can also strengthen attunement and communication with animals, guides, and the universe and bring order during painful times.
Snakeskin Jasper vs Red Jasper
Red Jasper (Left) and Snakeskin Jasper (Right)
Snakeskin Jasper, also called Red Line Jasper, might seem like a form of Red Jasper at first glance, but it is not always red. It can also appear in brown, cream, yellow, and green, and unlike Red Jasper, it always has bold stripes or vein-like patterns, resembling snakeskin or wood [6].
Snakeskin Jasper and Red Jasper are very similar when it comes to metaphysical properties, however, Snakeskin Jasper focuses more on hope and support. It can shield individuals from others projecting their negativity onto them and sparks confidence, determination, and joy.
