Simply put, chakras are wheels of energy and spiritual power in the body. They store information and are important to keep the body processes functioning at optimal levels.
The word chakra is Sanskrit for "wheel" or "disk". Referring to 7 main chakras that align with the spine, chakras are a "spinning vortex of energy that is not seen by the human eye but can be seen, felt, and sensed with intuition. This invisible healing energy, called prana, is a vital life force, which keeps us vibrant, healthy, and alive." [3]
There are 7 major chakras:
1st - Root (or Muladhara) - located at the base of the spine
2nd - Sacral (or Svadhisthana) - located in the lower abdomen
3rd - Solar Plexus (or Manipura) - located in the upper abdomen
4th - Heart (or Anahata) - located in the center of the chest
5th - Throat (or Vishuddha) - located in the throat
6th - Third Eye (or Ajna) - located between the eyes
7th - Crown (or Sahasrara) - located at the top of the head
